International Scientific Conference "Law on corporate social responsibility around the world and the developmental trend of Vietnam in the context of integration"

This morning (November 6th), Binh Duong University cooperated with Belarus State University (Republic of Belarus) to organize an international scientific conference with the theme "Law on corporate social responsibility around the world and developmental trends of Vietnam in the context of integration”. The conference was held online via the Zoom platform.

Overview of the conference program this morning

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Cuong - Vice President of Binh Duong Univeristy and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee shared: “Corporate social responsibility is not only the charitable activities of the business contributing to society, but also the compliance of the business with international and national legislation standards in the fields of labor, environment, investment, labor safety, social security... In the context of Vietnam's deeper international integration, the requirements for corporate social responsibility has been and continues to be important in commercial activities. This is not only required at the enterprise level, but also associated with the national requirements for the internalization of international standards and the improvement of the law on corporate social responsibility.” With that context, Binh Duong University cooperated with Belarus State University (Republic of Belarus) to organize the above scientific conference.

Authors, researchers, experts and lecturers referenced at the Conference

The seminar was held in 2 sessions (Session 1 - Law on corporate social responsibility around the world; Session 2 - Law on corporate social responsibility in the fields of labor and environment in Vietnam) with 11 presentations by researchers, experts, and lecturers from many domestic and foreign universities as well as 2 international organizations in Vietnam, namely the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The presentations included were: "Corporate social responsibility - a driver of change or a resource for partnership reform: New challenges and lessons learned in Vietnam" by Dr. Nguyen Hoang Ha - International Labor Organization (ILO); “Theory, legal and practical aspects of the role and responsibility of enterprises in respecting human rights in Vietnam today” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuong Duy Kien - Director of the Institute of Human Rights, National Academy of Science of Ho Chi Minh; “Recruiting people with disabilities in enterprises - Legal and practical perspectives related to corporate social responsibility” by MSc. Dao Thu Huong - Disability Rights Officer at the United Nations Development Program; “Business integrity as corporate social responsibility: Law and practices of Vietnam” by Dr. Nguyen Quang Duc - Lecturer of Constitutional Law & Administrative Law, Faculty of Law - Hanoi National University;

“Identifying theories on corporate social responsibility and the current status of the legal basis for corporate social responsibility in the integration period in Vietnam” by Assoc. Dr. Ho Xuan Thang - Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Economic Law - Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City; “The corporate responsibility for the environment according to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020” by Dr. Vo Trung Tin - Head of the Department of Land Law - Environmental Law, Faculty of Commerce, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law...

Sharing about the 3 main components of the digital economy concept in a presentation at the conference: "The law on corporate social responsibility around the world and the developmental trend of Vietnam in the context of integration", Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Ablameyko - Belarus State University, included: Supporting infrastructure (hardware and software, telecommunications, networks); E-commerce (implementation through business activities and any other business processes through computer networks); E-commerce (Selling and distributing goods over the internet).

Authors, researchers, experts and lecturers referenced at the Conference

Relating to the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the paper "Corporate social responsibility - a driver of change or a resource for partnership reform: New challenges and lessons learned in Vietnam", Dr. Nguyen Hoang Ha said: “CSR is not a new concept, it is the way businesses take into account the impact of their activities on society and affirm their principles and values.” According to Dr. Nguyen Hoang Ha, the European Commission has defined CSR as a concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns into their operations and in their interactions with stakeholders on a voluntary basis.

Sharing about the employment of people with disabilities in the presentation "Recruiting people with disabilities in enterprises - Legal and practical perspectives related to corporate social responsibility" MSc. Dao Thu Huong said: “According to the results of the National Survey on People with Disabilities in Vietnam for the period 2016-2019, only 31.7% of people with disabilities participated in the labor force, compared to the 82.4 % People with disabilities.” According to MSc. Dao Thu Huong, 30% of people with disabilities lost their jobs, nearly 50% reduced their hours and nearly 60% had their wages cut during the first Covid-19 outbreak.

The Organizing Committee stated that this conference received 130 articles by authors and researchers both at home and abroad, of which 70 articles have been reviewed by the Editorial Council and chosen as quality articles selected for printing in the Proceedings (English language), with ISBN index at a reputable publishing house in accordance with regulations of the Government Council of Professors./.
